Global health policy in the 21st century
GMUSC members are involved in a series of review articles in Best Practice & Research Clinical Rheumatology to support our work to develop a framework and action plan for the future of MSK health.
The chapter by Andrew Briggs, Jeremy Shiffman, Yusra Ribhi Shawar, Kristina Akesson, Nuzhat Ali and Anthony Woolf, Global health policy in the 21st century: Challenges and opportunities to arrest the global disability burden from musculoskeletal health conditions, provides an overview of the issues surrounding the burden of MSK conditions and what needs to be done.
“The burden of disease of MSK health is well established and likely to increase, along with other NCDs. Health policy is a critical component of health system strengthening to respond to the burden of MSK diseases and persistent pain.”
Unified and collective action from the global MSK network will be important in influencing system-level change at scale.
