Education for Healthcare Providers

The management of MSK conditions across the world is dependent on access the right health care professionals that have the right qualifications, skills and experience to diagnose and provide treatment. In many countries around the world there are insufficient health care professionals related to multiple factors including lack of resources as well as lack of training programs available. A sustainable and coordinated approach to education is critical to ensure that new clinicians are starting out with the best up to date knowledge. Ongoing lifelong learning also needs to be considered with clinicians having access to new evidence on treatment options as they become available.

In order to support this G-MUSC and its partners have been involved in developing competency frameworks and developing training schemes relevant to developing countries.  In 2019 G-MUSC developed a draft action plan to the World Health Organization called “Action to address the 18 million health worker shortfall”. This draft action plan will be developed to enhance musculoskeletal health workforce development and delivery of care. To develop the plan G-MUSC will access input from its network of stakeholders to create a web based educational tool to support healthcare provider education and training. This will focus on developing a common curriculum and competencies together which will be accessible to the different professions around the world.

This approach will achieve an on-line platform that will be available to different health care groups in different countries to help to facilitate education for health care professionals across the world.
