Musculoskeletal conditions burden the UK economy say BBC
In a recent online article from the BBC back and neck pain are recognised as a leading cause of work days lost in the UK workforce. Almost 31 million days of work were lost last year due to back, neck and muscle problems, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Both the Work Foundation (www.theworkfoundation.com) and the Chair of the Bone and Joint Decade, Prof Anthony Woolf contributed to the article. “I describe suffering from musculoskeletal disorders as being like a Ferrari without wheels,” says Prof Woolf “If you don’t have mobility and dexterity, it doesn’t matter how healthy the rest of your body is.”
