Sad News of the loss of Dr Cy Frank – Bone and Joint Canada

Dr. Frank was a valued member of the orthopaedic community. He was a visionary who demonstrated a constant dedication to the improvement of care for people with musculoskeletal conditions through a systems approach. Dr. Frank was an orthopaedic surgeon who worked at the Department of Surgery at the University of Calgary. He was committed to evidence based care and through his career had been a leader in research being renowned for his scientific contributions on a national and international basis.

Over his lifetime Dr. Frank had received many awards including most recently the Order of Canada. This is the highest award in Canada for civilians and reflects Dr. Frank’s lifetime of work towards improving the health care system in Alberta and across Canada. His passion for improvement in health care were seen well beyond musculoskeletal conditions as demonstrated through his position as CEO of Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions.

He was a leader in the orthopaedic community and had held the position of president of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association as well as an ongoing position of Director for the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation. Dr. Frank was Chair of Bone and Joint Canada from 2010 – 2012 for which he provided exceptional leadership.

Dr. Frank will be missed by Bone and Joint Canada and indeed the Bone and Joint Decade. Our condolences are extended to his family.
