Setting priorities for musculoskeletal research and innovation: Horizon 2020

After the announcement of the new EU Research Framework Programme ‘Horizon 2020’ back in December 2013, the burden of MSD’s was given specific regonition. In a recent editorial in Bone and Joint Research, former chair of the BJD, Prof Lars Lidgren, calls for “all basic and clinical researchers to chase collaborative opportunities across boarders and specialities, to create a strong consortia to develop relevant submission to EU calls”.   The unprecedented emphasis on MSD’s creates the opportunity to increase EU funding substantially for research in orthopaedics and traumatology and to position musculoskeletal science at the core of European funding activities.
