Early Intervention and the Pursuit of Remission

A new report from the Global Remission Coalition highlights the importance of early intervention in improving outcomes for people living with chronic inflammatory conditions. Launched alongside the 79th World Health Assembly, the report emphasises that timely diagnosis and treatment, ideally within the first months of symptom onset, can significantly increase the likelihood of achieving remission and preventing long-term disability.

The report also calls for stronger primary care systems, multidisciplinary models, and a more patient-centred definition of remission that goes beyond clinical measures to include pain, function, and quality of life. It concludes that coordinated action across health systems, policymakers, and patient communities is essential to enable earlier intervention and improve long-term outcomes.
