Evidence and solutions for low-value care in MSK health care

A recent open access paper by Jan Hartvigsen, Stephen J Kamper and Simon D French, published in Pain Practice reviewed the evidence for low value care in MSK conditions and discussed possible solutions, highlighting the importance of frameworks and global strategies to improve MSK health. Their findings:

  • Low-value care is prevalent in the care of people with MSK conditions wasting resources and potentially harming patients
  • Reducing low-value care requires behaviour-change – amongst patients, clinicians and health systems
  • Efforts to reverse the trend of pervasive low-value care should involve all stakeholders and be facilitated through good conceptual and theoretical frameworks
